We were delighted to be featured in Fall Line Magazine this month — one of the UK’s most respected ski publications. Their editorial team captured perfectly what makes Champoluc and Ski Champoluc such a unique, family-friendly ski destination.

Let’s be honest. Most so-called family ski holidays come with trade-offs. Dad gets lumped into ski school drop-offs, Mum queues for lukewarm coffee in a packed café, and the once-legendary annual ski trip starts to feel more like a winter logistics exercise.

But what if there was a way to keep the kids progressing, the grown-ups exploring, and the whole family genuinely reconnecting — without compromise?

Welcome to Champoluc, the crown jewel of Italy’s Aosta Valley, and quite possibly the most perfectly balanced ski destination you’ve never heard of.

At the heart of it is Ski Champoluc — a locally based company that’s been quietly redefining what a family ski holiday can be.

Ski School Bliss

Let’s start with the game-changer: five hours of ski school. Not just a couple of hours that barely allows for a warm-up, but five full hours of expertly structured instruction, where kids aren’t just babysat — they actually ski.

The ski school in Champoluc is a brilliant blend of local Italian instructors and British staff, creating a perfect mix of technical know-how, progress and easy communication. Within a day or two, you’ll spot your children carving turns like mini freeriders and buzzing with confidence.

The ski school meets at Crest — an area tailor-made for building confidence, with a double magic carpet, wide-open nursery zones, and plenty of gentle blues. There’s even a dedicated sledging hill and play area. For added variety, the Fun Slope at Colle Bettaforca has adventure-park-style features: waves, humps, tunnels and curves.

Children aren’t stuck in one spot either. Thanks to lunch vouchers that work across the mountain, instructors take the kids on mini-adventures — skiing to new locations each day for a proper ski-team lunch.

Uncompromised Skiing

Five hours — that’s enough time to truly roam. And in the Monte Rosa area — covering Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna — roaming is exactly what you’ll want to do.

This isn’t your average family-friendly ski area. With 180 km of pistes, sprawling high-alpine bowls, and barely a lift queue in sight, this is serious skiing.

The terrain caters for ambitious intermediates, carving connoisseurs and powderhounds alike. And if you’re up for a real challenge? Tick off Indren — the gateway to some of the best off-piste terrain in the world. The lift takes you to 3,275 m, where classic descents like La Balma drop over 2,000 vertical metres through bowls, gullies and glacial terrain. All wild, ungroomed and unforgettable.

Authentic Italy, Minus the Crowds

While many French mega-resorts feel more like shopping centres on snow, Champoluc remains gloriously authentic. No high-rise blocks, no fast-food joints, no pumping après spots aimed at 18-year-olds — just beautiful Alpine villages, locally run hotels, and restaurants where the pasta is handmade and the wine is cheaper than the Coke.

Skiers stay in family-run hotels that have been doing hospitality properly for generations — many with on-site spas and pools, perfect for unwinding after a big day on the mountain. Parents get the sauna, kids get the pool, and everyone gets a proper pizza night at the end of it.

Tailored, Local, Effortless

Lose a pole, need a lunch table for six, or a post-ski sports massage? No problem.

There’s a friendly, English-speaking team based right in the heart of the village on-hand to help — because Ski Champoluc is based in Champoluc. This is their home turf, and that means every detail of your trip can be tailored: ski-hire swaps, restaurant bookings, childcare requests, taxi transfers, ski passes — whatever your family needs.

Many companies offering ‘family ski holidays’ follow a formula. Ski Champoluc does things differently. This isn’t a themed experience — it’s a bespoke, locally managed holiday built around you, in a proper ski resort that happens to work brilliantly for families.

Off-Slope Fun Galore

When the skis come off, Champoluc still delivers. Families can explore the woodland trail just above the village, complete with charming wood-carved sculptures that delight kids and adults alike.

For snowy adventure, there’s snowshoeing through peaceful forest tracks — or a climb on the indoor wall for those with energy to spare. And when it’s time to unwind? Head to the Monterosa Therme Spa, with family-friendly thermal pools, saunas and panoramic views of surrounding peaks.

Easy to Reach, Hard to Leave

Despite its off-the-beaten-path charm, Champoluc is surprisingly easy to access. A short flight to Turin or Milan, followed by a scenic transfer, and you’re in resort with minimal faff.

Once you’re here, the difference is obvious. Lift queues? Minimal. Crowds? Rare. Prices? Very un-Alpine. And above it all: a ski area that rewards confident parents, teaches brave young skiers, and gives the whole family something they’ll actually want to do again next year.

See you in Champoluc this winter?
