Here in Champoluc, we’re counting down the days to our favourite time of year –
Christmas and New Year! There’s just something so magical about this season in our little
alpine village, and we’d love to share with you why it’s such a special time to visit.
Christmas Eve in the Heart of the Village
On Christmas Eve, there’s a wonderful tradition in the piazza at the heart of Champoluc.
Locals and visitors gather together at the church, filling the square with warmth and festive
cheer. It’s such a lovely moment, and you really feel like part of the community – whether
you’re here for the first time or your tenth.
Afterwards, you can head to one of our many fabulous local restaurants. Christmas Eve
dinners here are something truly special – course after course of traditional dishes,
beautifully prepared and served with all the heart and soul you’d expect in Italy. It’s a feast
that will leave you full of festive spirit (and delicious food)!
A Winter Wonderland Full of Festive Cheer
The whole town is decked out in twinkling lights and decorations, making the snowy streets
look like something straight out of a Christmas card. It’s a magical backdrop for a stroll,
maybe with a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine in hand. And speaking of snow – the
slopes are quiet and fresh at this time of year, perfect for peaceful days skiing or
snowboarding in the Monterosa ski area.
Unlike the busier Easter season, Christmas is a more tranquil time in Champoluc. Whether
you’re new to skiing or a seasoned pro, this is the time to enjoy pristine slopes and stunning
mountain views, all at your own pace.
New Year’s Eve Magic
New Year’s Eve in Champoluc is another highlight of the season. Many of our favourite
restaurants offer unforgettable multi-course dinners, perfect for celebrating the year gone by
and ringing in the new one.
Then there’s the magic of the lantern release at the Hotel Relais des Glaciers – watching
those glowing lights drift into the starry sky is a moment you won’t forget. And of course, the
piazza comes alive again as everyone gathers to count-down to midnight together. It’s a
warm, welcoming atmosphere – the kind of celebration that feels like one big family party.
The Fiaccolata – A Festive Tradition Like No Other
If you’re here on the 29th or 30th of December, you’re in for a treat. The Fiaccolata is one of
our favourite events – a torchlit ski descent down the mountain. Watching the skiers (and
maybe joining in!) wind their way down with the glow of their torches is breathtaking. At the
bottom, there’s mulled wine, music, and a real sense of celebration waiting for you at
Kondor. It’s an experience that captures the magic of the mountains and the festive season
all in one.
