Week in the Life of...
Family of Four at Relais des glacier

As a family of four; me, my husband and two daughters (aged 6 years apart), have been coming to Champoluc for many years.  Having stayed most places, we have gravitated to Relais Des Glacier in the last few years as it is especially good for older children (now 18 and 12).

What we love most about coming with Ski-Champoluc is that unlike other package ski holidays (and we have done a few of those too), the guys (and gals) at Ski Champoluc arrange everything for us and we can tailor the holiday to our needs.

We especially like the fact that we don’t have to do standard 7 days, and whilst we may pay a premium to travel outside of this we like to maximise the trip and stay 10 days when we come.  As with everything at Ski Champoluc this isn’t a problem, nor is the fact my husband may travel home mid-week for a meeting.

On arrival there is no faff, one of the lovely drivers is waiting in a spacious van (room for all our kit) and a bottle of bubbles too.  After a stress-free drive up into the mountains we are greeted by the fabulous Kelly, Val and Greta.  By now they know our names, but to be honest even from the first trip (so many years ago), they always make sure they a familiar with each client arriving and all of their needs.

Once sorted with lift passes and any equipment (boots, skis, helmets) then off we go to the hotel to check in.

The Relais Des Glacier is at the bottom end of town (but with free resort transport provided by Ski Champoluc) both the walk (10mins) or drive are a breeze.  It is a classic Italian hotel with friendly staff who want to help.  The rooms are spacious and there are many combinations to allow for any family mixture.

The large open bar area, open fires and entertainment (on some evenings), make it a pleasant stay and the breakfast is one of the best in town!  Whilst they don’t do a formal evening meal there is an option of you don’t want to go out, but the town has such great eateries we love trying new places.

But the best bit of all is the large outdoor hot tub (more like mini swimming pool) and the spa beneath the hotel.  This is the perfect blend as the kids can have a dip but as adults we can escape too.

This hotel would always be our recommendation if you are coming with a larger family or friends and definitely great for older children as they can have the freedom of the hotel.  It’s also large enough that we have always met new people and the girls made new friends.

Relais Des Glacier isn’t super modern like some of the newer hotels, but we feel that it offers the perfect blend of alpine charm with modern facilities.

That’s the lovely thing about coming with Ski Champoluc though, you get great British organisation (invaluable when you have youngsters learning to ski) but with a feeling of coming on a real Italian holiday.

As for the skiing, what can I say… there is something for everyone!!
